Angel
~Early 2002 to 02 August 2008~

My Wish
If the day should come when I'm in pain,
And you know I won't be well again
Promise you'll do what must be done
If this is the battle that can't be won.

It'll break your heart, but please be kind,
Don't let your grieving sway your mind.
For this is when you'll let me see
Just how much you do love me.

Together we've had happy years
The future now can hold no fears.
Please don't let me suffer so
When that day comes, please let me go.

For my usual vet please will you send?
But stay with me until the end.
Hold me steady, speak to me
Till my once bright eyes no longer see.

In time I hope you'll come to see
It's the last kindness you'll do for me
One more time please stroke my mane
And know that I'll have no more pain.

And don't be sad that it was you
Who decided this was what to do.
We've been such buddies through the years
Don't let me be the cause of tears.

You'll always see me graze now,
with the sun upon my back
Painful limbs won't tire me now,
however long the hack.

I live now in your heart and mind,
a lovely place to stay.
And what you have in memories,
no one can take away.

August 2003
This little ANGEL came to us from CO. She is dealing with multiple health issues and is in rehab at this time. One of ANGEL'S hocks is badly deteriorated due to joint ill. She will most likely never be riding sound... ANGEL is the most wonderful little horse, very loving and people oriented. She'd greatly appreciate a sponsor to help with her bills.

03 April 2004
Angel is now available for placement into a permanent foster home. She is not, nor will she ever be riding sound. Other than the deterioration in her hock, she also has contracted tendons. Her hooves must be trimmed more frequently than on a healthy horse. Angel is a very happy, very playful little girl despite her problems and is a perfect little pet. Must be placed together with JJ.

09 August 2004
Angel is on hold for the time being. Her tendons are severely contracted now and she is scheduled for surgery...

15 September 2004 Surgery was performed, but it didn't work. As it turns out, Angel must have had this very same surgery before she even came to us. We now believe that the first surgery didn't improve her condition either and it might be what caused the joint ill. So, now we know why this little girl was dumped... Doc Paul will try operating one more time in a couple of months.

09 November 2004
Angel had surgery again today. We are a little more optimistic this time and praying this worked. To see pictures of the surgery and follow ups, please click the following link:
Angel's surgery

19 February 2005
Angel is now available for placement into permanent foster care. Her left leg is very contracted, but she can run and gets around well.

10 September 2006
Angel is no longer available for placement. We (and our vet) believe Angel won't have a very long life. We do not believe she should be moved and will live out the rest of her life with us ...
Gold Sponsor: Marilyn Shupe in memory of Dr. Cameron C. Lewis, was Angel's Sponsor for November and December 2006.  Thank you so very much!

Gold Sponsor : Marilyn Shupe in memory of John Heim, a wonderful neighbor and friend, Is Angel's Guardian Angel for July, August and September 2007. Thank you so very much!
