ORGANIZATIONAL POLICIES & PROCEDURES MANUAL
Title: Euthanasia Policy
Policy No.3, Revision 2
Effective Date: January 01, 2005
Policy
It is the policy of Perfect Harmony Animal Rescue & Sanctuary to euthanize animals who are either in uncontrollable pain, are suffering from severe injuries or terminal illnesses, or are dangerously aggressive.
Procedure
When determining if an animal should be euthanized, the following procedures will be followed:
Life Threatening Emergency:
In an emergency such as severe colic, broken limbs or other obviously fatal injuries, any member, or foster family of Perfect Harmony may opt for euthanasia per the suggestion of the attending veterinarian.
In a non-emergency situation, the following procedure will be followed:
The animal will be examined by Perfect Harmony’s veterinarian. If the vet determines that the animal is suffering and there is no hope of recovery, or if all possible treatment options are exhausted, the animal will then be humanely euthanized. Perfect Harmony will take the attending veterinarian’s suggestion under advisement, but the final decision will be made by a representive of Perfect Harmony. No animal will ever be euthanized to make room for newcomers!
